Battlestar Galactica is a hit with the critics and has one of the
most devout fanbases that has ever existed for a cable network drama.
One of the reasons could be the mix of a totally redesigned science fiction story world, and the realistic characters, problems, and growth that exist within it.
The story takes place in the distant future, after a battle between humans and machines. Less than 40,000 humans survived the war. The machines, called Cylons, began taking human form some years ago, and many were programmed to believe they were human, planting an enemy on the inside.
The series began with a clear but flat opposition; humans vs. Cylons. But, as with any restoration of society, the problems become less black and white and opposition begins to evolve. Not all humans agree on the policies aboard their ship. Not all Cylons want to continue a war against the humans. Some humans and Cylons have forged relationships – two are even married, with a child. The character web and the opposition that binds it continue to fluctuate, drawing in more and more viewers with each season.
