SITCOM ONLINE CLASS
Break Into the TV Sitcom World with A Class That Really Works.
Our Sitcom Online Class covers all the tools and techniques for writing sitcoms professionally.
The best comedy writing in the entertainment industry is done on sitcoms. But sitcoms are NOT about stringing together a lot of jokes. They are comic short
stories, and they have a unique, highly structured form. The trick is knowing the sitcom story structures that actually produce the laughs, writing comedy from character, and playing with the ongoing web of comic oppositions.
This online class takes you step-by-step through the storytelling process, from one-line idea to final script, so that you can write an excellent work of fiction. In each of the lessons, you will first study the material and then complete the appropriate writing exercise.
Send your written responses to the exercises to firstname.lastname@example.org for comprehensive feedback. Then proceed to the next lesson. John Truby has designed the lessons in the order that will produce your best work in the shortest amount of time. However, you are free to take the lessons in any order you wish.
The Sitcom Lessons:
Lesson 1 – What is the primary way that your hero will be dropped comically in the story? How are the other characters in your story dropped?
Lesson 2 – Determine which if any comedy types you are using for your characters.

Lesson 6 – Write the story cards and check the order of your scenes. Determine your “act out” scene(s). Check whether the thematic line is being expressed properly in the story sequence. Write the story.
