Yet another Apatow-branded comedy is a surprise hit at the box office – but are we really still surprised? Freaks and Geeks alum Jason Segel makes his writing debut with Forgetting Sarah Marshall, an R-rated romantic comedy that would have been better if we didn’t already know exactly what to expect from this group of filmmakers.
Segal plays Peter Bretter, a jaded composer who’s just been dumped by his television-star girlfriend, Sarah. What this film does so expertly, besides the nicely-timed jokes, is that Segel makes it impossible to really hate Sarah’s new beau, sexy rock star Aldous Snow, played by the very funny Russell Brand. So now, Peter problem isn’t simply “What do you do when your girl dumps you for another guy?” – rather, “What do you do when your girl dumps you for another guy who you really like?”
