John Truby has designed the lessons in the order that will produce your best work in the shortest amount of time. However, you are free to take the lessons in any order you wish.
The Myth Lessons:
Lesson 1 – Learn the inherent problems for writing a myth story and explore ways of developing your myth premise to avoid these problems.
Lesson 2 – Describe the unique combination of land, people and ideas that will serve as the foundation for your mythical story world.
Lesson 3 – State the need and desire of your hero. Describe how your hero exemplifies one of the new myth archetypes. Or describe a new archetype you are using.
Lesson 4 – Using your main theme as your guide, describe how you will apply the New Story Structure beats to express that theme and create a unique story.
Lesson 5 – Describe the key story beats for your myth.
Lesson 6 – If you wish to use an old myth story as your model, combine the unique story beats of your model with the major myth story beats you wrote in lesson 5.
Lesson 7 – If you wish to use one of the new myth story forms as a model, combine the unique story beats of your model with the major story beats found in lesson 5.
Lesson 8 – Determine the symbols for your hero and other characters.
